5.3. Syllabus

Syllabus (or programme)

I. Linguistic theories and grammar of Spanish as a foreign language. Formal/functional paradigm. Grammar and communicative competence. Educational grammar: from a focus on forms to a focus on the form.

II. Levels of linguistic competence. Selection of grammatical contents by levels. Analysis of grammatical needs. Management of the grammatical acquisition process and of the objectives and results of the grammar programme.

III. Grammar. Selection and presentation of the most important problems related to morphology and syntax in the teaching/learning of Spanish as a foreign language: Ser/estar, the indicative/subjunctive, past tenses, etc.

IV. Lexicon. Selection criteria. Organisation and presentation. The dictionary in Spanish as a Foreign Language classes.

V. Phonetics. Pronunciation. Intonation. Accent and rhythm. Graphic representation and orthography.

VI. Which Spanish to teach. Spanish and its varieties. The language model.

VII. Online grammar resources for Spanish as a Foreign Language classes.
